Burrowing owl Athene cunicularia Captive short-eared owl chick at about 18 days old Owls possess large, forward-facing eyes and ear-holes, a hawk -like beak , a flat face, and usually a conspicuous circle of feathers, a facial disc , around each eye. The feathers making up this disc can be adjusted to sharply focus sounds from varying distances onto the owls’ asymmetrically placed ear cavities. Most birds of prey have eyes on the sides of their heads, but the stereoscopic nature of the owl’s forward-facing eyes permits the greater sense of depth perception necessary for low-light hunting. Although owls have binocular vision , their large eyes are fixed in their sockets—as are those of most other birds—so they must turn their entire heads to change views. As owls are farsighted, they are unable to clearly see anything within a few centimeters of their eyes. Caught prey can be felt by owls with the use of filoplumes —hairlike feathers on the beak and feet that act as “feelers”.

However, men with high levels of the male hormone were more similar to men in financial risk-taking. RELATED Pharmacies could soon sell pills to reset body clock, offer jet-lag relief The researchers took saliva samples of men and 91 women provided saliva samples to assess their levels of cortisol and testosterone.
Those levels were measured before and after participants took a computerized test of their tendencies for financial risk aversion. The participants also described their own willingness to take risks and gave information about their sleep patterns. Men had higher cortisol and testosterone levels than women; but night-owl women had cortisol levels comparable to night-owl and early-morning men. The findings suggests high cortisol levels may be one of the biological mechanisms explaining higher risk-taking in night owls.
RELATED Catching up on sleep over the weekend helps some The link between the night-owl tendency and risky behavior could have roots in evolutionary strategies for finding mates, Maestripieri said.

I would immediately go to my job a place I actively dislike and then get home and would just want to veg out, as I was drained psychologically and would have to try to pep talk myself into exercise and writing after a long day.
Sometimes, this pep talk strategy would work and I would take action, but more often than not I failed and found myself getting lost in YouTube or in a movie. However, after I wrote that post last week I decided that I had had enough of that kind of schedule and needed to switch back to an earlier riser model.
